Flair Lesson #7: Change Grip into Arm Roll Down

Here we go with yet another addition to the ending of the Change Grip Around the Head. I really like this move because it is very functional. When we are first learning to flair bartend, we often forget that ultimately we need to pour the drink. This is a great beginner’s move because it flows right into the pouring of the drink.

My tips for perfecting this move:

1) When you get to the “Roll Down” part, make sure you start with the pour spout pointing up. Try this with a half-full bottle capped with a pour spout – you’ll know really quick if you’ve got the pour spout pointing up enough.

2) Extend your arm all the way out, palm down. Your arm should be almost parallel to the floor.

3) Use the palm of your hand to cover the pour spout. This hand should help guide the bottle down your arm.

4) The momentum for the roll down should come from leaning into the move. Pick up your foot, step into it, and push your shoulders into it.

5) Finish the Arm Roll Down by popping your wrist up as the bottle rolls over it and use that hand to grab the bottle. The momentum from this grab should flow nicely into a pour.
