Flair Bartending Lesson #51: Same Hand Shadow Pass

This move – an advanced version of the Shadow Pass – is one of those moves that just feels awesome when you land it. Get comfortable with the Shadow Pass, practice the technique here, and you’ll have this move in no time.

Things to keep in mind:

1) Watch your throw, not your catching hand.

2) Turn your torso and pivot your right knee in and towards the ground. This will help turn your body the right way to help catch the bottle.

3) It may seem silly but if you’re having a hard time with this, try doing the move in front of your head a few times rather than behind it. The mechanics are the same. Once you’re comfortable with the toss and the catch, try it  behind your head.

4) Try and Inverse version of this move. Grab the bottle by the neck in a juggler’s grip. Use a little momentum, grab the bottle by the neck to toss, and try catching by either the neck or the body. Be sure to catch it with the pour spout angled up so that you don’t spill. This is my favorite way to do this move. It opens you up to some fun transitions that we’ll get to shortly.

5) Try this move with a tin, a glass, an ice scoop. A bottle is the most practical, but any other item can be both fun and functional.
