Flair Lesson #35: Repeating Circle Swipe Thru with Behind Back Catch

Make sure you are already able to rock the Repeating Circle Swipe Thru – this move is a variation on the ending. If you’ve got the Repeating Circle Swipe Thru down, this move should be pretty simple. The only difference is that instead of catching the tin in front of your body, you catch it behind your back.

Go through the steps of the Repeating Circle Swipe Thru. On the last step, throw the tin from your left hand up in the air like you normally would but a bit more straight up in the air – you don’t want it to cross your body. Instead of reaching out to catch it, step forward with your right foot and turn your right shoulder down and in for a left-hand catch behind the back. The catch should be the same grip that we learned in the Flat Behind Back. The tin throw can be really tricky. You are catching it on the same side – but not with the same hand – that you threw the tin with. Focus on getting that tin throw up and almost behind you, ready to catch it behind your back.

If this move is giving you problems, set the bottle down and just practice the motions of the hand that is holding the tin. On that note – once your comfortable with this move – don’t forget to switch hands and practice being ambidextrous at this flair move.

Also, once you can get the behind the back catch, try for an underarm catch. The move should be 95% the same, but after you toss the tin, lift your right arm up towards the sky and let the bottle pass under your arm pit as you catch it with your left hand. Play around with either catch and see what feels most comfortable for you.
